Hi, this is David blogging today.
So today started early with football on the field from 7 am, for us it was more of a horse field/bog but for them that was a football pitch. As i walked onto the field my feet were submerged in the mud and I nearly lost my shoes. I realised then there was no way to keep clean, I was going to get muddy.
We played for about 4 hours, the Africans controlling the ball on the slippery wet surface and me falling on it. The grass slowly disappeared and eventually it was just a long patch of mud. I was beginning to get the hang of the African style after a few hours and was thoroughly enjoying myself by the end. 2 goals in 4 hours wasn’t bad for my first time, hopefully I would score more next week and not need to spend so much time cleaning mud off afterwards.
It was a great experience playing the African style, not caring too much about fouls and decisions but just enjoying the game for what it is. Playing on this surface really made me appreciate the facilities available to us in England, it also explained the African superiority in the game, if you can master a boggy field, Wembley is easy!!
The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, buying new waterproof shoes and eventually settling down to watching Liverpool draw at home to Sunderland. Hopefully Manchester get a similar result and Chelsea win tomorrow!!
So far these few days have really opened my eyes to what a lot of the world is like and I look forward to learning and experiencing more.
